“Requiem of Snow” wins prize at Olympia filmfest

TEHRAN, Dec. 12 (MNA) -- Iranian director Jamil Rostami’s “Requiem of Snow” won the Best Director Award at the 8th Olympia International Film Festival for Children & Young People held from December 3 to 10 in Greece, the Persian service of the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported on Monday.

The film was produced by Seyyed Ahmad Miralaii and is a joint production of Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan Ministry of Culture.

 

The movie tells the story of people who are praying for rain, a land parched in drought, the illusion of snow, and a girl called Rozhin who dreams of escaping her fate and seeks support from a stranger.

 

Shadi Variani, Mahieddin Variani, Masud Yusefi, Abdollah Ahmadi, Jalil Mohammad Veisi, Delnia Farajpur, and Anvar Farajpur are the main cast members.

 

Born in 1971 in Sanandaj, Rostami began his professional career as an assistant cinematographer, director, and planner in 1987. In 2002, he made his first short film “The Trouble of Being a Boy”, which was screened at 24 domestic and international festivals and won several prizes. “Requiem of Snow” is his first feature-length movie.
